Golden Triumph at the Scottish Design Awards: Grandstand's Innovative Design Shines
Music has the power to move us, to transport us to different worlds, and to evoke emotions we never knew existed. For those who have spent their lives playing music, their instruments become an extension of themselves, cherished and celebrated. Yet, there is one element that often goes unnoticed and underappreciated—the humble music stand. From its inception to its triumph at the Scottish Design Awards, we will delve into the inspiration, innovation, and dedication that went into designing and creating Grandstand.
What are the Scottish Design Awards?
The Scottish Design awards was established in 1997, making 2023 their 26th annual award ceremony. Driven by great design, the Scottish Design Awards act as a lynchpin between exceptional design and the consumer. The awards collectively celebrate design from all realms of creative industries from architecture to design, such as design consultancies, advertising agencies, printers and client companies.
At the end of June, Noisy Clan’s General Manager Joe, and Lead Design Engineer Jaren, had the privilege of attending the Scottish Design Awards, as Grandstand had been nominated for the Product Design category.
After a three course meal, and many, many other categories and nominees announced, winners collecting prizes, and the constant buzz of applauding, Noisy Clan’s category was called. And with much anticipation, apprehension (and maybe one too many proseccos) our name was announced … we had won GOLD!
Grandstand: Where Functionality Meets Elegance
You might be wondering what Grandstand is, how it came about, and how a small product design company came to win Gold?... well, imagine this:
You have spent your life playing music, whether that be 5, 10, or even 50 years. Over time you naturally collect music stands, out with the old, in with the new. But what is the difference between the new and the old? Maybe the new can hold a binder, or even an iPad … apart from that, what else is new? And at the end of each practice session, you pick up your music stand, and put it in its designated corner, the same corner the last one was placed in, and the one before that. Sometimes, when you have guests over, you fold it and put it in the cupboard. Our question is, why don't we celebrate our music stands, tools and accessories, just as much as the instrument? Why not create an environment where the music stand is part of the decor, a centrepiece to be awed and gawked at?
That’s what Grandstand does. Designed by musicians, for musicians. For us, music is more than just playing, it is a lifestyle. So it just made sense to bring in a music stand that is just as considered, elegant, and thoughtfully put together as the instruments themselves. No longer confined to the corners of practice rooms or hidden away in cupboards, Grandstand emerges as a work of art in its own right—a centrepiece that demands attention and appreciation. It embodies the very essence of the musical journey. Whether you're a seasoned musician with decades of experience, or a passionate beginner, Grandstand becomes an indispensable companion, enhancing your musical experience and inspiring your artistic aspirations.
We are beyond grateful to have our Grandstand recognised at the Scottish Design Awards for its innovative design! It has accelerated our excitement and anticipation for Grandstand to be released (fingers crossed it is soon). Join us in celebrating the fusion of functionality and elegance as we introduce Grandstand to the world.
